Gunmen Kidnap ACN Lawmaker In Anambra

A member of the Anambra State House of Assembly  representing Onitsha South 1, Dr. Emeka Aniebonam, has been kidnapped .

Our correspondent gathered that Aniebonam of the Action Congress of Nigeria was taken away by gunmen  while attending to patients at his private clinic at Fegge, Onitsha.

Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, who confirmed the incident, however, said the command had commenced efforts to rescue the legislator.

He called on those with useful information to immediately contact the police station nearest to them.

A source said Aniebonam was attending to his patients when three men  drove into the premises in a Honda Accord.

According to him, the  men, who were  armed with AK 47 rifles,  made straight to Aniebonam’s office and left with him in their car

He said, “We were in the hospital when three men drove into the hospital in a Honda Accord  (End of Discussion) with tinted glasses. They  came out of the car carrying  AK47  riffles  and  entered into the OPD where they ordered  all the patients there  to surrender.

“Two  of them then went straight into the doctor’s office and took him away.”

Police Area Commander in Onitsha, Mr. Benjamin Wordu,  said the command was already working on the case.

A  source said the kidnappers were yet to make contact with the family of the lawmaker.

Anambra State House of Assembly, which sat on Tuesday adjourned without making any comment on the kidnap of their colleague.

Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. Fidelis Nwakwisili, who also confirmed  the incident, said the session was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Nwafor Orizu, who adjourned plenary to April 15.
