NECO Confirms Sudden Death of Registrar, Professor Godswill Obioma

- The death of the registrar of NECO has been confirmed by the Nigerian examination body on Tuesday, June 1

- Meanwhile, many Nigerians believe that the professor was killed as a form of retaliation for the murder of Ahmed Gulak

- Obioma's son, has, however, debunked the trending story that the registrar was assassinated by unknown gunmen

Minna, Niger state - The National Examination Council (NECO) has confirmed trending news concerning its registrar, Professor Godswill Obioma.

In a statement made available by the examination body on Twitter, the registrar was reported to have died after a brief illness on Monday, May 31.

The body consequently urged its members to remain calm. Recall that news had circulated that Obioma was assassinated.

Meanwhile, diverse reactions have followed the death of the professor, with many believing there was foul play.

Meanwhile, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state has said the killing of Ahmed Gulak, a former presidential aide, has a political undertone.

Addressing a press conference in Owerri, the state capital, on Monday, May 31, Governor Uzodinma dismissed the claim of the Imo state police command that Gulak was killed by members of the outlawed IPOB.

Governor Wike speaks

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has said that Governor Uzodinma is giving the impression that he knows about the circumstances surrounding Gulak's death by pronouncing the killing as a political assassination.

The Rivers state governor made the statement in an interview with Channels Television on Monday, May 31.

He asked his Imo state counterpart to allow security operatives to conclude their investigation before attributing the murder of the APC chieftain as a political assassination.
