Liverpool Superstar Gets UK Work Permit, Tells Gernot Rohr He Wants to Play for Super Eagles

- Nigerian player Taiwo Awoniyi has finally gotten his UK work permit

- Awoniyi is currently playing for Union Berlin on loan from EPL side Liverpool

- The 23-year-old has represented Nigeria at Under 17, 20 and 23 levels

Nigerian and Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi has expressed happiness about him getting UK work permit for the 2021/22 season after six years that he has been looking for it.

Taiwo Awoniyi started his football career on the streets of Ilorin in Kwara state and went through many difficulties before he succeeded as a footballer.

Gone are the days when Taiwo Awoniyi used to walk around the streets of Ilorin due to his poor background, today, the Liverpool striker is one of the richest Nigerian players.

Years back, Taiwo Awoniyi used the money meant for his JAMB form to enroll at Imperial Soccer Academy from where he was chosen to represent Nigeria at the Under 17 World Cup in Dubai which they won.

His performances at the championship caught the attention of Liverpool chiefs who signed him after the tournament and was immediately sent out on loan.

Since 2015 that Liverpool signed Taiwo Awoniyi, he has not played any game for the Premier League side due to the United Kingdom work permit.

But after spending the current season with Union Berlin, the 23-year-old has played the required quota of Bundesliga matches to meet the new GBE work permit criteria for next season.

While speaking exclusively with Legit.ng from Germany, Taiwo Awoniyi explained that he is happy with the latest development about his career.

''Yes, I have gotten it and I am glad with the latest development about my football career even though it took me years to get it.
''Journey of life is not about how far it is, but how well and I am looking forward for the new chapter of my career.''

Taiwo Awoniyi also explained that playing for the main Super Eagles is his target stressing that he will continue to work hard so as for him to get a call-up.

''The dream of all Nigerian players is to play for the Super Eagles and I want to wear the jersey also and make my country proud.''
