Governor Abiodun Rewards 15-Year-Old Student who Defeated UK, US pupils to Emerge Global Maths Champion

- In rewarding excellence, the duo of Faith Odunsi and Oladimeji Shotunde has been recognised by the Ogun state government

- While 15-year-old Odunsi was rewarded with a N5 million endowment fund, Shotunde was given a house and whopping N2 million

- Ms Odunsi and Shotunde were rewarded respectively for emerging maths champion and LASU best graduating student

Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun state, has launched an endowment fund worth N5 million for Faith Odunsi, a 15-year-old genius who emerged the winner of the Global Open Mathematics Tournament.

The governor made this disclosure on Thursday, April 22, while also presenting a 2-bedroom bungalow and N2 million cash prize to the University of Lagos State (LASU) best graduating student Oladimeji Shotunde.

Governor Abiodun said the endowment fund for Faith is seeded at N5 million but sought "voluntary donations " from private sectors and well-meaning Nigerians.

"The Ogun State Government today launched an endowment fund for Miss Faith Odunsi who topped the Global Open Mathematics Competition.

"The fund, is seeded with 5million Naira and subsequent, voluntary donations from the private sector," he said in a tweet.

Legit.ng had reported earlier that Odunsi, an SS3 student from the Ijebu area of Ogun state beat participants from Europe, Africa, America, Asia and Australia to become a global maths champion.

My dad was a mechanic, my mum a pepper grinder - Shotunde

Meanwhile, Shotunde who graduated with a 4.95 CGPA from LASU said he was happy to have made his parents proud with his result.

Speaking with Legit TV, the Ogun state indigene said his father was a mechanic and his mum was a pepper grinder. According to him, graduating with a first-class was a gift to them.
