10 dead, 500 hospitalised as another strange disease breaks out in Kano

- Kano state is currently coping with the outbreak of another outbreak amid the battle with COVID-19

- Officials in the northern state claimed that at least ten persons have died, while 500 are in the hospital

- The state commissioner for health, Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, disclosed the probable source of the outbreak

About ten persons have been confirmed dead with not less than 500 receiving treatment in the hospital after drinking flavoured drinks containing citric acid in Kano.

Daily Trust reported that the Kano state commissioner for health, Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa made the disclosure in a video on Thursday, April 15.

According to Tsanyawa, 50 among those hospitalized are undergoing kidney-related treatment following complications related to the consumption of the drinks.

In his one-minute, 21 seconds video message, the commissioner explained that the affected persons are being treated in government hospitals, The Nation reports.

While cautioning residents on taking juice during the period of ramadan, Tsanyawa said The consumption of these fake products have telling effects on the kidney, and vital organs of the body.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that an outbreak of a strange disease suspected to be caused by food poisoning in Kano state has led to the deaths of three people, while 284 have been hospitalised.

The outbreak which occurred on March 11, is said to have been caused by contaminated water and local drink.

The director of the Disease Control in Kano state ministry of health, Dr Bashir Lawan, confirmed the incident to the publication. Lawan said the ministry of health has held a meeting over the outbreak.

In another report, facts concerning the cause of a strange sickness in Kano have been disclosed by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
