Dozens of people, without any iota of doubt, have been given hope and support to overcome severe life events through our stories on succour-needing struggling Nigerians.

Of course, this would not have been possible without the cooperation of our ardent readers and loyalists both home and abroad who have demonstrated clear compassion in lending a helping arm, always.

Now, we have come up with a charity initiative, Children of Calabar, aimed at positively changing more lives of abandoned kids in the Cross River's capital.

The problem, the drive

According to the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Nigeria, 10.5 million of the country’s children aged 5-14 are out of school and lacking the basic necessities of life.

In Calabar alone, many of these children have become urchins due to the unfortunate event of life, apparently left on the street to fend for themselves through menial jobs.

These children, obviously exposed to societal danger, do not have parents or access to education, shelter, and the daily mandatory needs of comfortable living standards.

Legit.ng went to the city and discovered that the prospect of these kids surviving the current storm is bleak, as there is little or no effort to secure a solid future for them.

We, however, believe every of these Calabar children deserves the right to feeding, education, shelter, clothing and responsible life irrespective of where they belong.

Our goals include:

a. Raising $2000 to organise a food drive for these struggling kids, and supply them with clothes and shoes.

b. Talking these children out of the streets by providing them with shelters.

c. Granting scholarships to some of these children until they finish secondary schools.

This is part of our national effort to put smiles on their faces, make them stand on their feet, and make our society perfectly work.
