IWD: Lagos lawmaker celebrates women around the world, makes case for more participation in politics
- A Lagos lawmaker, Mojisolaoluwa Alli-Macaulay, has celebrated women around the world
- Alli-Macaulay emphasised that no nation can grow without the contributions of the women
- The lawmaker, however, appealed to African leaders to allow women to participate more in politics as it happens in the advanced democracies

The lawmaker representing Amuwo Odofin constituency 1 at the Lagos state House of Assembly, Hon. Mojisolaoluwa Alli-Macaulay has joined people around the world to celebrate women for their contributions to society.
Legit.ng reports that the lawmaker in a video posted on her Twitter page @mamaamuwo, commended women, who through their doggedness and resilience, accomplished great feats across the world.

She said the history is replete with some women who accomplished greatness in their chosen careers and stool tall in the midst of great men.
Alli-Macaulay:
"Dear women, every story has a hero and you are the hero of this one. Looking down memory lane, we have been blessed with women who have defied the odds. History is replete with our kind, who have through their doggedness and resilience accomplished great feats across the world.
Today, I celebrate you dear women of strength time and time again, we have proved to the world that we have got what it takes to make a change, to be the change. It is the time to rise even rise stronger and challenge the norms and status quo to stand for equal right and opportumities for all.
"It is time to break free from every limitation holding you back to fight against gender inequalities, to abjure cowardice and embrace courage. It is time to own your dreams and embrace your uniqueness. Yes! You are the proof, that strength and beauty can co-exist, so, un-bow your heads, wear your own crown with pride. Stand out, blaze new trails, embrace the challenges because form them, change does come. The world is waiting for your songs. I Honourable Mojisolaoluwa Kehinde Alli-Macaulay and I choose to challenge the status quo."
The lawmaker had earlier emphasised the need for women to be given their pride of place as catalysts for a developed nation while reflecting on the challenges being faced by women, especially in developing countries.
She stressed that if given the opportunity, women can help make the country work again, citing examples of what is happening in developed countries where women have been given the opportunity to serve as leaders in high places.
Alli-Macaulay also noted that women are incubators of success and it is high time government policies were tailored towards favouring women.
She said:
"You see women taking charge in the economies of the world and I make bold to say our own Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the director-general of World Trade Organisation (WTO) is one of them. She is the one who will be driving the world trade organisation, pushing forward and bringing to bare the best of her negotiation prowess to negotiate for world trade barter deals across the divides all over the world in almost 200 countries on the planet earth."
Speaking on her experience at the Lagos Assembly, the lawmaker commended the speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa for his exemplary roles and ability to carry all members along.
She added that female lawmakers are given the opportunity to carry out their duties without any discrimination.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that from the inception of the current democratic rule in Nigeria, the number of females in the National Assembly has been a major cause of concern for many people, especially those who believe that women should be given 35% in governance.
It was reported that in 2007, Patricia Olubunmi Etteh who represented Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan federal constituency of Osun state at the House of Representatives became the speaker.
