Buhari, Nigerian governor meet behind closed doors amid FG's plan to lockdown state

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, January 29, met behind closed doors with Simon Lalong, the governor of Plateau state.

The meeting was confirmed via the Twitter handle of the federal government @NigeriaGov.

As of the time of this report, details of the meeting had not been made known, but it was confirmed that the two Nigerian leaders held discussions at the State House in Abuja.

Legit.ng reports that the meeting is coming on the heels of the possibility that the federal government will impose another lockdown in states like Lagos, Kaduna, Abuja, and Plateau anytime soon.

This was revealed on Friday, January 29, by the national incident manager of the Presidential Task Force for COVID-19, Mukhtar Muhammed.

Muhammed disclosed that urban local government areas in these states have continued to record an increase in new infections.

Lalong tests positive for COVID-19

Recall that the governor of Plateau state had tested positive for COVID-19, following a test he and members of his family carried out.

The news was broken by the governor’s director of press and public, Makut Macham, in a statement in Jos on Thursday, December 17, 2020.

Lalong’s test result returned positive while all members of his family tested negative.

Macham said the governor, who was asymptomatic, has gone into isolation while his close aides are being tested, adding that he had directed his deputy, Sonny Tyoden, to handle all state matters in his absence.

Governor Lalong recovers from deadly coronavirus

Meanwhile, Lalong recovered from the coronavirus infection, with the Plateau state governor announcing his recovery days after contracting the deadly disease.

In a statement on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, Lalong declared his test returned negative - a development that ushered in a sigh of relief for the family members and relatives of the governor.
