Southwest governors to hold meeting with Miyetti Allah amid expiration of 7-day ultimatum

A report by The Punch indicates that the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria has agreed to meet southwest governors on Monday, January 25.
The decision to hold a peace meeting is following the expiration of the 7-day ultimatum issued by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo to Fulani herdsmen to vacate the state’s forest reserves.
Legit.ng recalls that Akeredolu had given herdsmen an ultimatum to quit all forest reserves in Ondo state.

According to the report, southwest governors would meet with the association in Akure to find lasting solutions to the incessant killings, kidnapping, and crises between herdsmen and farmers in the region.
MACBAN Ondo state chairman, Alhaji Bello Garba confirmed the meeting, saying the national leadership of the association had arrived in Akure in preparation for talks.
This development is coming after a group of cattle breeders in Nigeria, the Miyetti Allah Kautal Ho*e, said no one has the right to evict herdsmen from the forest reserves in Ondo state because all the land in Nigeria belong to Fulani.
Bello Abdullahi Bodejo, the national president of the association told the Sun newspaper in an interview that herders will not obey Akeredolu’s directive mandating them to vacate the forests reserves.
He said the herders do not need anybody’s permission to use a forest for grazing so far as it provides the nutrients needed by their cattle.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Ondo state government said it is serious about sending all herdsmen out of its forest reserves despite the presidency's position on the issue.
Reacting to the presidency's position that Akeredolu cannot unilaterally oust herders from the state, Jimoh Dojumo, a media aide, said there is ignorance on the part of the leadership concerning the rate of insecurity in Ondo.
