Real Madrid might be forced to abandon their interest in Bayern Munich veteran defender, David Alaba, over wage demands.
The 28-year-old will be out of contract with his German League champions when the current season wraps up later this year.
However, less than six months to the expiration of his deal with the Bavarians, he is already attracting attention from other top clubs including Chelsea and Barcelona.
Los Blancos moved ahead of their rivals Barca in the chase when it was reported that the Catalans could not match his demands.
The two-time Champions League winner is opened to taking advantage of his free-agent status and join another club but his wages seem to be causing a problem for Real.
Goal reports that Alaba will only entertain a deal of about €13 million ($16m/£12m) annual earning after-tax before committing his future to such a club.
The publication added that the wage will make the Austrian earn more than Sergio Ramos who is picking up €12 million ($15m/£11m) a season.
Though the Spaniard is also in his final season with the Galacticos, they will not be able to keep both stars on their wage bill financial crisis caused by the deadly coronavirus.
Meanwhile, Bayern have not totally given up on David Alaba, as sources claim they might make attempts to persuade him to stay back. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said before Christmas that:
“He is very important to us, on and off the pitch. He is very popular and supports young players.

However, board member Oliver Kahn has said the player has turned his back on the prospect of remaining at the Allianz Arena.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Manchester United have joined the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Paris-Saint-Germain in the race to sign Bayern Munich star David Alaba.
Despite the efforts of Bayern Munich's chiefs, David Alaba has not agreed to sign a new deal with the club and his current contract will expire in the summer of 2021.
Since the 28-year-old has not signed a new deal with Bayern Munich, then David Alaba is free to talk to other clubs from January 2021.
