The year 2020 meant different things to different people. However, one thing almost everyone would agree on is the fact that it was quite an eventful and unforgettable year. And thanks to the internet, many people were able to maintain sanity and hope.

With the enforcement of global lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, a lot of people resorted to keeping themselves entertained by spending time on the internet and participating in different online activities for fun.

While every year witnesses different trends, the year 2020 seemed to have brought out the creativity in a lot of people and it has been fun to watch.

From the before and after dress-up challenges to witty wordplay challenges, social media users made sure to have as much fun as they could, seeing as outdoor activities were restricted.

1. Don't Rush

This is one challenge that had many internet users talking.

Created by Toluwalase Asolo, a 20-year-old business management student at the University of Hull, who revealed she started it out of boredom, #dontrushchallenge is done with a makeup brush, some friends and the TikTok app. The challenge is titled Don't Rush after the song by Young T and Bugsey featuring Headie One.

The challenge saw groups of friends showing off their stylish sides right after giving viewers a view of them barefaced or dressed down.

2. Bop Daddy

The Bop Daddy challenge was started by singer Falz for his song, Bop Daddy. The singer started the challenge for men after he noticed that ladies were doing the #dontrushchallenge, but now ladies have also joined his challenge.

3. Don't Leave Me

The challenge was created by Instagram comedian, Josh 2Funny, after he made a skit where he punned around with the word “leaf”. The video which immediately went viral on social media saw many people trying out different versions of the trend.

4. Flip The Switch

The “flip the switch” challenge originated on the social-networking app TikTok. The challenge involves two people instantly switching outfits to Drake’s song Nonstop. Many celebrities jumped on the challenge with some giving fans hilarious versions too!

5. Duduke

When singer Simi announced news of her pregnancy to the world, a lot of fans were excited for the singer.

She, however, gave a lot of expectant mothers something to dance to with the #dudukechallenge which saw Simi dishing out some cute steps as she rubbed on her baby bump.

The challenge saw several women dancing with their baby bumps and replicating her steps.

6. Influencer

The challenge was yet another one that left social media users entertained.

The challenge involves a person recording their family or friend's reaction while pretending to be an influencer addressing their fans on social media.

7. Slow Mo

This is one challenge that is currently making the waves online. It entails one walking in pretend slow motion. The slow mo challenge is either impressive - when it is done perfectly - or very hilarious - when it isn't done right.

Several songs by Nigerian artistes including Yemi Alade and Omah Lay have become some of the popular choices for the challenge.

Meanwhile, despite the problems that came with 2020, what remained consistent was the entertainment fans got from their favourite celebrities. Due to the restriction placed on outdoor activities, a lot of people depended on social media to keep sane.

One would think the pandemic will affect the desire to slay by some of our favourite fashionistas, however, these ladies proved that the 'drip' is eternal and nothing can stop them from serving fashion goals.
