Akwa Ibom govt seeks support of religious leaders to main peace

- The Akwa Ibom state government wants religious leaders to assist in sanitizing the state and riding it of bad elements

- Governor Udom Emmanuel is leading the charge by calling on all and sundry in the state to ensure bad eggs are tamed

- The governor also got the support and commitment of religious leaders to ensure peace is sustained in the state

Akwa Ibom state government has renewed its call on religious leaders and faith-based organisations to partner with the administration in its determination to rid the state of cultism and other forms of criminality.

The government stated that a reduction in the activities of cultists will make the state an investors' haven and a safe place for residents.

According to a press statement from the state government, Akwa Ibom governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel made the call during his interaction with the Fathers of Faith who visited him under the aegis of Spiritual Fathers' Forum on Tuesday, November 24 at Government House, Uyo.

Governor Emmanuel who decried the few pockets of cultism among youths particularly in secondary institutions in the state pointed out that cult activities will not be tolerated in an otherwise peaceful state.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation and chairman Spiritual Fathers' Forum, Akwa Ibom state, His Eminence Prelate Sunday Mbang, lauded the achievements of the state administration evident in the infrastructural renaissance across the state.

He also assured the governor of the forum's commitment to helping the state government overcome cultism.

Some Akwa Ibomites on social media have also commended the governor for his steps in tackling cultism in Akwa Ibom state.

“I want to thank you for all that you have done in Akwa Ibom state. You have planned the future well for us. Sir. I want to thank you again for your efforts to reduce cultism in Akwa Ibom, thus, giving us a very peaceful Akwa Ibom.”

Meanwhile, Governor Emmanuel is leading a charge to reverse the hike in the price of staple food which has plagued Akwa Ibom state in the past few weeks.

This comes on the heels of the skyrocketing price of foodstuffs such as rice, garri, beans, onion, tomato, and others in local markets especially those produced within the state.

Concerned about the development, the governor directed the state commissioner for agriculture, Dr. Glory Edet, and her team at the agric ministry to initiated measures that will eventually crash the price of foodstuff to a reasonable extent, ahead of the yuletide.
