Meanwhile, just days after Governor Umahi informed the PDP of his plan to leave for the APC, one of his commissioners resigned.

Ebonyi commissioner for intergovernmental affairs, Lazarus Ogbee, announced his resignation in a letter to the governor.

In a related development, APC secretary in Ebonyi, John Okochi, has declared that the state chapter of the party is anticipating the defection of the governor to its fold.

Okochi also said the Ebonyi APC is also aware that discussions are already taking place between Umahi and the party's leadership at the national level.

Some Nigerians have been commenting on the defection plans of Governor Umahi on social media.

Hamma Hayatu wrote on Twitter:

“Dave Umahi thinks APC will give its ticket to him? How can APC leave founding leaders even in the southeast and handover their 2023 ticket to an opportunist that just came?”

Imoefiong Akpan wrote:

“Movements without a difference. I pray Gov David Umahi is not drowned in the confusion APC is enmeshed in. He's done so well to the admiration of many.”
