- The PDP has lamented the rising rate of violence in Ondo ahead of the governorship election
- The opposition party called on President Muhammdu Buhari not to dance to the tune of the APC and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu
- Moreover, the PDP claimed its candidate, Jegede Eyitayo, enjoys the full support of Ondo people
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the spate of violence that has characterised preparations to the Ondo gubernatorial election.
The opposition party claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is working with Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to rain terror on not just its candidate, Jegede Eyitayo, but the people of the state.
On its Twitter page, the PDP advised President Muhammadu Buhari call the Ondo governor to order and use the same tactics he employed in Edo to ensure a violence-free election in Ondo.
The PDP called on the president not to succumb to pressure from Governor Akeredolu and the APC to influence the election.
"Our campaign, therefore, calls on President @MBuhari not to succumb to pressure by a failed Governor @RotimiAkeredoluand the @OfficialAPCNg to renege in his resolve not to interfere in elections, as amply witnessed in the September 19 Edo election."
The party said that it is not the fault of Eyitayo that he enjoins the support of the people of the state and that the governor would have been favoured likewise if he had done well in the last four years.
It went on:
"Governor @RotimiAkeredolu wasted the chance given to him and should have nobody but himself to blame for the electoral loss that would befall him on Saturday.
"If Governor @RotimiAkeredolu had done well in the last four years, he would have been celebrating his achievements instead of threatening his people, running from pillar to post to manipulate the election and seeking to drag in the presidency."
