Edinson Cavani has reportedly placed a call to the Barcelona management over a possible deal that could see him join the Catalan giants as their striker this summer.

The 33-year-old who is currently a free agent having seen-off his contract at French club Paris Saint Germain is desperately in search of a new team.

Cavani scored a total of 200 goals for the Ligue 1 outfit in 301 appearances in all competitions and could be heading to the Camp Nou.

And this is coming barely 48 hours that Barcelona launched what the club describe as urgent operation looking to clear out twelve players in a bid to get funds to bring in at least three new players.

Among the players expected to leave the club include Luis Suarez, Samuel and Martin Braithwaite who according to reports are now surplus to the squad.

Barcelona need cash to bring in a strong midfielder and a forward as well as a left footed center-back after they finally resolved their saga with Lionel Messi.

And Suarez has been told to train alone by new manager Ronald Koeman ahead of his rumoured switch to Italian giants Juventus.

Other players set to be axed by the Blaugrana include Arturo Vidal who is linked with Inter Milan, while France international Samuel Umtiti has been told to go.

And now Cavani has put a call through to the club as he desperately needs a new team also knowing Barcelona are in search of a striker.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Lionel Messi can begin to discuss his future with another club from January 2020, to avoid leaving Barcelona as a free agent, reports in Spain claim.

The Barca captain decided to see out the remainder of his contract at the Camp Nou but with the way things are going the 33-year-old may need to discuss with Man City in January.

Cristiano Ronaldo's situation at Juventus may have played a huge role in Messi's case because the Portuguese star is in his final two years with the Turin club and he must be sold next year in case he wishes to leave, Dario Gol claim.
