Willian cracked a joke with international teammate Thiago Silva that he would have stayed at Chelsea if he knew he was joining the Blues, reports claim.

Silva joined Frank Lampard's side on a one-year deal shortly after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired in the summer.

On the other hand, Willian refused to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge and joined London rivals Arsenal on a three-year contract.

And Willian playfully told his fellow countryman: "If I'd known you were moving to Chelsea, I would have stayed there after all," Telegraph claim.

Willian ended his seven-year spell with west London and moved to north London to start a new challenge in his career.

And it is understood Willian was the player who convinced Silva to play in the Premier League despite mouth-watering offers from China and the Middle East.

The Telegraph also claimed Neymar recommended Silva for Chelsea, urging English boss Lampard to sign the enterprising center-back.

The 35-year-old was also wooed by a number of Italian club cards, but a chat with Lampard made up the veteran defender's mind.

It has been rumored that the central defender will be handed Chelsea's captain's armband ahead of the new campaign.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar reportedly played a lead role in Thiago Silva's move to Premier League club Chelsea.

Silva sealed a summer switch to Stamford Bridge on a free transfer from PSG in August to form part of an array of players Frank Lampard has added to his ranks.

It is believed the veteran defender had a number of offers including PSG who were keen to extend his stay.

However, Metro UK citing The Telegraph reports the 35-year-old was immediately attracted by the prospect of signing for the Blues.
