The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Edo state governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osagie Ize-Iyamu, of parading plagiarised or fake campaign document.

The party's campaign council for the Edo governorship election in a statement on Friday, August 14, alleged that Ize-Iyamu's campaign document tagged SIMPLE agenda is empty.

The statement read: "The APC has destroyed its own campaign as the people of Edo state cannot abandon a performing government under the PDP candidate, Godwin Obaseki, with his highly acceptable, practical and development-driven MEGA manifesto, and go for the discredited APC with its candidate that has no plans to develop the state.

"The Edo voters have distanced themselves from the APC because the Ize-Iyamu’s deceptive agenda has proven to be nothing more than empty headlines without content or any commitment from the makers."

The party also accused the APC of not engaging in issue-based campaign, but allegedly resorting to violence.

According to the PDP, the antics of the APC cannot stop the people of Edo state from re-electing Governor Godwin Obaseki in the forthcoming election.

Ize-Iyamu in a statement on Tuesday, August 4, through the Edo APC media campaign council alleged that Obaseki’s campaign slogan, 'Make Edo Great Again (MEGA)' was a replica of Donald Trump’s 'Make America Great Again' mantra.

The governorship candidate said Obaseki’s slogan is brazen daylight plagiarism which shows that his campaign lacks originality and foresight.

Meanwhile, a group, Edo Youths for Progress, have vowed to resist ploys to subvert the will of the majority of Edo people, relying on brute force, violence and intimidation in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

The youth, drawn from the 18 local government areas of the state, said they are willing and ready to defend their votes, while ensuring that an unpopular candidate is not foisted on Edo people.

Speaking to journalists in Benin city, secretary of the group, Osahon Isibor, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the police and other security agencies to ensure the conduct of a free, fair and credible election in Edo state on Saturday, September 19.
