FG takes delivery of imported locomotives to boost rail transport

It was another large score for President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration as the federal government took the delivery of seven train coaches which are believed will help boost rail operations in the country.

The locomotives, which were ordered in the month of March, arrived the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja on Sunday, May 31.

According to Daily Trust, five of the coaches were conveyed to Tungan-Maje, a village near Zuba, Abuja through a specially designed truck owned by Saima Nigeria Limited.

The remaining two will arrive Abuja on Monday, June 1, where they would be conveyed to the Idu railway station.

The ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC), also confirmed the arrival of the locomotives.

In a tweet by the party on its official Twitter page on Monday, APC said the "dozens of train coaches" have been moved to Nigerian train base in Ogun state.

"Some days ago, Nigeria took delivery of the last dozens of train coaches ordered in the month of March.

"The coaches have been transported to Nigerian train base in Papalanto, Ogun state and will be used on the Lagos-Ibadan railway when operations begin," the ruling party tweeted at exactly 9:27 am.

Earlier, it was reported by Legit.ng that as more cases of coronavirus are confirmed in different states across the country, the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) announced that it was shutting down train services nationwide.
