Coronavirus: Lagos assures residents of food supply across emergency markets

Lagos government has assured the people of the state of continuous food supply across all the emergency food markets amid mounting coronavirus scare.
Gbolahan Lawal, Lagos agriculture commissioner, made this known during an exercise event the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base in Ikeja, The Nation reports.
According to Lawal, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed that supply of food to the 27 designated coronavirus markets across the state must continue pending the time the government will get over Covid-19.
Legit.ng gathers the emerging markets were established by the government to lessen the burden of the effect of coronavirus pandemic.
Lawan said the government will continue to support the farmers with necessary logistics to enable them mobilise their farm produce to the various designated emergency markets in the state.

"We underestimated the population here and we promise to improve on it in the coming days.
“This is a very good opportunity for our farmers and considering the situation that we are in, the COVID-19 pandemic to sell their produce at affordable prices.
“We want to assure the Nigerian Air force base of whatever they may also need because we are in discussion on how we can improve the skill set of some of the youths in the base," the commissioner said.
Lawan also disclosed that the Lagos government will support the youths to explore the opportunity in agriculture businesses.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has demanded that the federal government of Nigeria provide details of how the donations made towards the fight against the coronavirus pandemic is being spent.
SERAP announced on its official Twitter handle on Sunday, April 5 that it had submitted two Freedom of Information (FOI) requests to the Nigerian government demanding to know how the funds donated by well-meaning Nigerians, international bodies, religious groups and countries to kick COVID-19 out of Nigeria is being used.
