Kumuyi suspends all Sunday services to curb spread of coronavirus

- Deeper Christian Life Ministry at its headquarters in Gbagada has suspended all Sunday services
- The general superintendent, Pastor William Kumuyi, in a memo also noted that Tuesday leadership meeting and Saturday workers meeting are cancelled
Following the government's directive concerning the COVID-19 pandemic, Pastor William Kumuyi, the general superintendent, Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has suspended all Sunday services at the church’s headquarters in Gbagada.
According to Leadership, the church’s Tuesday leadership meeting and the Saturday workers meeting at the headquarter was also cancelled due to the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
Kumuyi, in a memo signed by the church's secretary, S.M. Afuwapeto, to all groups and districts, explained that the effected changes in local districts and locations are in compliance with the Lagos state government’s order to suspend religious gathering of over 50 people.
He said: “Please note that all programmes at Gbagada church have been suspended. No gathering of worshipers should be more than 50; where they are more, they should be sent to Location/church in the house.”
Kumuyi went on to note that materials for hand washing should be provided at the church and urged members to thoroughly wash their hands before going in.
He added: “Alcohol-based hand sanitizer should be made available for the same purpose in all our churches. Each Church should arrange and ensure regular cleaning and disinfecting places such as toilets, all floors, surfaces such as door handles, chairs, church benches and pulpits with disinfectants."

Legit.ng previously reported that Daystar Church has suspended physical gathering for service following a recent directive from the Lagos state government. The government had announced the restriction of public gatherings for religious activities with more than 50 worshippers as a way to curtail the spread of coronavirus in Nigeria's megacity.
A statement signed by senior pastors of the church, Sam and Nike Adeyemi, stated that from the weekend of March 21, Daystar Christian Centre will not hold a physical gathering for worshippers at any of its locations in Oregun, Lekki, Ikorodu and Badagry centres till further notice.
In a related development, the federal government has shut down three international airports as part of its strategic measures to curb the spread of coronavirus across the country.
The airports are; Mallam Aminu Kano Airport, Kano; Akanu Ibiam Airport, Enugu; and the Port Harcourt Airport, Rivers. On Wednesday, March 18, the Nigerian Senate urged the government to shut down all international airports except the Lagos and Abuja airports for easier monitoring of the viral disease.
