PDP ward congress: Gov Emmanuel lauds smooth conduct of exercise in Akwa Ibom

- The PDP ward congresses held in Akwa Ibom state have been commended by Governor Udom Emmanuel

- The governor was happy about the large turnout and the fact that party members conducted themselves well without any incident

Governor Udom Emmanuel has expressed satisfaction over the turnout and smooth conduct of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward congress across the 329 wards in Akwa Ibom state, on Saturday, March 7.

Speaking while observing the exercise in his ward, Awa Ward 1, Governor Emmanuel lauded PDP members for their peaceful conduct throughout the exercise.

The governor's ward was at Qua Iboe Church Primary School Awa in Onna local government area of the state.

His words: “The congress is very peaceful across the wards and we observe a large turnout at the party congress which is an obvious statement of the unrivalled popularity of the PDP in the state.

“Without sounding immodest, the support shown by the people for our party is a community tradition.

“I'm delighted over reports of rancour-free, peaceful and well-coordinated conduct of the exercise at various wards across the state. This shows that our party has evolved into a very organized party.”

He commended the congress committees, stakeholders and members for their large turnout across the state, adding that they all lived up to expectations.

The governor expressed optimism that the success of the ward congress is an indication that subsequent congresses in the state will be peaceful and credible.

Governor Emmanuel had earlier made deliberate moves to ensure that all interests are accommodated during the conduct of the PDP congresses

This he maintained was in line with the philosophy of the PDP that power belongs to the people and has always worked for the state.

He clarified that the party will not disrupt already existing local zoning system where zoning has been adhered to overtime but warned that trying to create a zoning formula that was hitherto nonexistent, may cause problems.

The governor had also assured members of the party that the PDP will adhere in totality to the 35% reservation for women approved by NEC of the PDP and stipulated by the National Working Committee.

Meanwhile, Senate President, Dr Ahmad Lawan, has applauded Governor Udom Emmanuel on his approach to governance and national development, describing him as the face of Nigerian politics.

Senator Lawan gave the commendation while speaking at the 60th birthday anniversary celebration of Mrs Akon Eyakenyi, the senator representing of Akwa Ibom South senatorial district in Uyo in Sunday, March 1.

The Senate President described the Akwa Ibom state governor as a decent person, tolerant leader and purpose-driven administrator.
