Coronavirus: Lagos health commissioner says condition of infected Italian has improved

- The health of an Italian patient who tested positive to coronavirus has improved

- This was disclosed by the Lagos state commissioner of health, Akin Abayomi

- Abayomi said the Italian would be released as soon as he is free from the virus

The condition of an Italian patient infected with coronavirus has improved Prof. Akin Abayomi, the Lagos state commissioner of health has confirmed.

In a report by NAN, Abayomi on Saturday, February 29, noted that the patient has not developed new symptoms.

The commissioner while giving an update on the deadly disease at the Mainland Hospital, Yaba, in Lago called for a stop in spreading unverified information about the situation in the state. He reiterated the Lagos state government’s commitment to protecting citizen’s health

Abayomi went on to note that in the next two to three days another test will be conducted for the patient to be sure that there isn't any more virus particles in his saliva. He added that once there is no more virus, the patient would be released back into society very soon.

However, the commission stated he couldn't give a specific number of people that have been quarantined, adding that the number keeps increasing.

Legit.ng previously reported that the Italian who was tested positive to the disease in Lagos also visited Ogun state. The Italian who was confirmed positive to the virus on Thursday, February 27, had also visited Ewekoro in Ewekoro local government area in Ogun state.

The state's commissioner of health, Tomi Coker, on Friday, February 28, however, assured the residents and visitors in the state not to panic.

In a related development, the Lagos commissioner of health said the Italian who tested positive to coronavirus has been moved to a renovated facility. Abayomi said while appearing on Arise Television on Saturday, February 29, that the patient had complained about his condition but he said he is now comfortable in his new ward.

“I saw him at about 6pm yesterday. He was explaining his condition and we were taking some new data from him,” he said.
