- Emeka Ihedioha has finally approached the Supreme Court over his sack by the same court
- Ihedioha was the governor of Imo state until he was sacked on Tuesday, January 14, by the apex judicial institution
- The former governor described the judgment that removed him as illegal
Apparently determined to reverse his sack as the governor of Imo, Emeka Ihedioha, has finally sought the review of the Supreme Court judgement that declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hope Uzodinma, as authentic governor of the state.
Vanguard reports that the former governor on Wednesday, February 5, officially approached the Supreme Court of Nigeria led by Justice Tanko Muhammed to review a judgment delivered against him and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Legit.ng gathered that the newspaper said that the immediate past governor of Imo state approached the apex court to seek a review of the judgement that removed him from office and pronounced the current governor of the state, Hope Uzodinma, winner of the 2019 gubernatorial election of the state.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Biafra Zionists Federation on Tuesday, February 4, gave Governor Uzodinma of Imo state a 14-day ultimatum to vacate office.
It was reported that the separatist group gave the ultimatum through its leader, Benjamin Onwuka. It claimed that Uzodinma is an impostor who would never enjoy the support of Imo people owing to lack of legitimacy.
In a related development, the coalition, Defence of Nigerian Democracy and Constitution, accused the judges of using their position to undermine Nigeria's democracy for political interests.
A petition signed by members of the coalition, Ariyo Dare-Atoye, Deji Adeyanju and Adebayo Raphael and submitted to the US Embassy in Abuja on Thursday, January 23, described the judgment as a terrible miscarriage of justice.
Similarly, some Christian leaders in Imo declared that they do not believe that Uzodinma won the election and asked the Supreme Court to review the ruling.
Speaking for the leaders, Rt Rev Chidi Oparaojiaku, an Anglican bishop, said the group was shocked that the apex court went contrary to the evidence placed before it.
He said the Christian leaders do not hate Uzodinma, but stated that the process that brought him to the seat of power is questionable.
