Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi: Kano PDP chairman joins APC

- There has been a major loss of members of the PDP in Kano state

- This is as the chairman of the PDP in the state, Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, has defected to the APC

- There are reports that Bichi left the opposition party with a lot of members loyal to him

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano state has lost in two-folds in very short period of time recently.

First, the PDP lost its bid to upturn the victory of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of the All Progressives Congress (APC) when on Tuesday, January 21, the Supreme Court in Abuja upheld his election, The Nation reports.

Then, there are emerging reports that the chairman of the PDP in the state, Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, a former secretary to the government, has defected to the APC.

In fact, it has been reported that Bichi left the PDP with a number of Kwankwaso supporters who are said to be loyal to him.

However, an ally of Bichi who on Tuesday spoke with journalists claimed that the former chairman of the PDP in Kano defected based on his personal principles and convictions.

The ally who did not reveal his identity said that the Supreme Court's ruling has no bearing whatsoever on Bichi's move.

On his part, the PDP's secretary in Kano, Shehu Sagagi, said that Bichi only made known his intention for defection without an official statement to that effect.

This was not very different from what happened in Imo state where about nine lawmakers on the platform of the PDP defected to the APC after the declaration of Hope Uzodinma as the winner of the poll.

There are claims that these defections are now coming up because some PDP members are afraid of being victimised or at least probed by the new APC-led government in their states.
