Monterrey vs Liverpool game ended in a narrow 2-1 victory for the Reds as they escaped what could have been a terrible outing against the Mexican champions on Wednesday night, December 18.

Jurgen Klopp's men came into the game head-high but the tough encounter saw the European champions' attack-line left unproductive as Monterrey put up a stubborn show at Khalifah International Stadium in Qatar.

The European champion grabbed an early lead through Naby Keita's brilliant finish in the 12th minute.

The Guinean international fired a wonderful shot into the net after receiving Mohammed Salah's assist at some inches to the penalty box.

But the lead was short-lived as stubborn Monterrey got a wonderful equaliser through Rogelio Funes Mori.

The Argentine was ruthless as he balanced the score-sheet for the Mexican side in the 14th minute, making the match end in stalemate in the first half.

Liverpool continued to dominate the possession in the second half but that was not enough for the European giants to find another lead as Monterrey's defenders caged Salah-led attack-line.

With Liverpool looking out-favoured for the night, Klopp was forced to make some tactical changes which saw Trent Alexander-Arnold called to action in the 75th minute.

The German manager also brought in Roberto Firmino ten minutes later and that decision proved to be expedient as the Brazilian got a late winning goal for Liverpool in the 91st minute.

Interestingly, Alexander-Arnold made the beautiful assist as Liverpool walked into the final of World Club Cup in style with a narrow win.

The England international has now registered 20 assists in all club competitions in 2019, the most of any Premier League player.
