BREAKING: Four Immigration officers kidnapped in Rivers

A report by The Nation indicates that four officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) were on Monday, November 11 kidnapped on Bonny waterway in Rivers state.

According to the report, the officers left Bonny for Port Harcourt documentation and other official matters at NIS’ headquarters when pirates attacked them on the high sea.

They were said to have been whisked away in a Commando-like operation.

A source quoted in the report revealed that the boat’s driver was allowed to go after personnel of the para-military agency were moved into the higher-capacity speed boat, which immediately sped off, while shooting sporadically into the air.

At the time of this report, no demand for ransom have been made by the unknown gunmen.

Bonny route is said to be one of the most dangerous waterways in the Niger Delta with frequent attacks by daring and fully-armed sea pirates, who kidnap or dispossess passengers of their cash, phones, other valuables.

The criminals also most times remove the expensive engines of the regular speed boats with drivers left with no choice but to use paddles to move the boats to the shores.

Ladies/women are also said to be regularly ra*ped in the boats on the high sea by the criminals despite the patrols with gunboats by security operatives.

Meanwhile, gunmen suspected to be kidnappers shot at commuters around Zuma rock along Abuja-Kaduna highway, in Niger state on Tuesday, November 5.

A victim, who escaped the attack, said around 9pm, the vehicle he boarded from Zuba axis in Abuja was shot at on approaching the area, just close to a military check point.

He said the attack forced the driver to reverse,after which all passengers alighted from the vehicle and fled the scene to take refuge around nearby Zuma estate.
