Bayelsa election: Court disqualifies APC deputy governorship candidate

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, November 12, disqualified the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo, over false information given in his CF0001 form submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the November 16 election.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Justice Inyang Ekwo, in a judgment, said Degi-Eremienyo gave false information in relation to his educational qualifications and went ahead to depose to an affidavit to correct the discrepancies.

The judge held that all his documents bore different names.

Justice Ekwo, therefore, disqualified him on the ground that he provided false information to the electoral umpire to stand for the election.

Meanwhile, several supporters of the PDP including the speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Monday Obolo Bobou, have defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC) ahead of the governorship election in the state.

The Sun reports that the chairman of the Southern Ijaw local government council, Nigeria Kia, was also among the defectors who are all from his local government.

The former special adviser to the state governor on waterways security, Tony Oki, led the defectors to the APC. He said the strong indication that Bayelsans are tired of the PDP government prompted their decision to join the APC.

The new members were received by the APC governorship candidate, David Lyon, who stated that the party will defeat the PDP.

In another news report, the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja ordered the INEC to allow the participation of Social Democratic Party (SDP)'s gubernatorial candidate, Natasha Akpoti, in the Kogi election.
