Gabriel Martinelli, Arsenal striker, says he had 4 trials with Man United

Gabriel Martinelli who made the headlines for Arsenal in their Europa League 4-0 win over Standard Liege had four trials with Man United but was rejected.

The 18-year-old scored a brace that saw the Gunners continue their 100 per cent run in the elite competition.

Martinelli has now scored four goals this season including his double against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.

The 18-year-old was signed this summer from Brazilian side Ituano by Unai Emery for £6million, but the youngster had been rejected by Arsenal rivals Man United a few years ago.

Martinelli and current United striker Mason Greenwood once got involved in a series of trials in youth team friendly in 2017.

Speaking to ESPN Brasil, Martinelli revealed: "Between 2015 and 2017, I went there four times and trained for about 15 days.

"As everyone trains in the same centre and eats in the same cafeteria, I've seen all the professionals.

"I asked to take a picture with [Patrice] Evra, [Marouane] Fellaini and other guys. [Paul] Pogba knew I was Brazilian and asked if everything was okay with me and where I was playing. We took a picture together."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he could be hanging his boots in the next year or two to continue with his business.
