Supreme Court annuls HDP’s petition against Buhari

The suit filed by the presidential candidate of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP), Chief Ambrose Owuru, against the election of President Muhammadu Buhari has been annulled by the Supreme Court in Abuja.

The verdict, issued on Thursday, October 3, by Justice Mary Peter-Odili, held that the HDP made a gross error in filing two notices of appeal which contravened the law, a move described as capable of misleading the court, This Day reports.

The appeal against the HDP's suit was contested by Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN which was upheld by the apex court.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Owuru claimed that with 50 million votes he won President Muhammadu Buhari in a presidential referendum.

Moreover, as he testified at the presidential election petition tribunal in Abuja, Yusuf Ibrahim, one of HDP's National Working Committee (NWC) members, said that despite postponement by the Independent National Election Commission (INEC), the referendum took place on Saturday, February 23.
