UNGA presidency: Nigeria will not disappoint the world - Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari has affirmed that Nigeria, following the election of Tijjani Muhammad-Bande to the presidency of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), will not disappoint the world.
The president said that Nigerians are grateful and feel immensely honoured by the election of one of their fellow citizens to an enviable office of a reputable international body.
Moreover, President Buhari said that the country will not fail to live up to the expectations of the international community and the responsibilities it has placed on her shoulders.

Moreover, speaking of the potentials of Muhammad-Bande, the president said: "Ambassador Muhammad-Bande is an experienced and seasoned diplomat and I am confident that he will prove to the International Community his suitability for this most demanding assignment."
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that while participating at the 2019 general assembly of the United Nations, President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday, September 23, in New York paid a courtesy call on the head of the 74th edition of the event, Prof Tijjani Muhammad-Bande.
A statement by Femi Adesina, the president's spokesperson, said Buhari told Muhammad-Bande that the latter bears a heavyweight on his shoulders and that Nigeria was solidly behind him in the onerous task.
The statement describes Muhammad-Bande as a Nigerian diplomat, who was earlier in the year unanimously elected as president of the general assembly for one year.
Buhari was quoted as saying: “I sincerely congratulate you. Your election was well received by the whole world. It was unanimous support, and the global community received you well."
