Protesters under the name Lagos Youth Vanguard (LYV) on Tuesday, September 24, besieged the Lagos state House of Assembly to ask that the former governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, be investigated over his alleged corruption.
Legit.ng reports that the protesters, led by Rasak Olokooba and Ibrahim Ekundina, patron and president of the group, sang charity songs.
Some of the placard the protesters carried read “Ambode, submit yourself for probe,” “Ambode must be probed,” “EFCC do your job,” “Ambode is a thief,” “Ambode awarded fake contracts,” and “Ambode, return Lagos money.”
Among other things, the group accused Ambode of going against government rules as he did not follow the procurement laws.
The former governor was also accused of making wrong moves in his policies and programmes and deviating from plans that could have helped the state.
The president of the group said that the former governor handed over a very bad state to the current administration, adding that the government of Babajide Sanwo-Olu was able to rescue the situation somewhat.
“For every government that is going out, you leave a template for the coming government to succeed.
“Ambode handed over a very rickety handing over note that cannot assist the current administration.
“If you go round the state today you will see that there is no governor that would inherit such state and the people of the state would be happy with him, but thank God the goodwill enjoyed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is still intact if not, by now the people of Lagos State would have been complaining bitterly,” he said.
Rotimi Olowo, the representative of the speaker of the Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, said that the protesters were exercising their constitutional rights with their protest.
He assured the protesters that a committee will look into the finances of the state and make roads in the state be in good condition for vehicles.
