Police arrest 3 dismissed soldiers, 2 ex-navy officers, others for alleged robbery in Lagos

- Police arrested seven robbers in Ijegun who reported used military uniforms for their operations

The Lagos police command has arrested seven men around the Ijegun area of the city who allegedly specialise in robbing people using military uniforms.

Premium Times reports that the police said three of the arrested men were dismissed Nigerian army soldiers, two were dismissed from the navy while the other two were civilians.

The Lagos state commissioner of police, Zubairu Muazu, said on Monday, September 23, that the men robbed a man of his Lexus RX330 car on February 18. He added the man was travelling from Ibadan to Ijegun when he was robbed.

According to Muazu, the robbers were arrested after the police received multiple distress calls from residents of Ijegun.

He said the suspects confessed to be responsible for series of robberies within Ijegun and its environs.

He further said that 19 firearms and 51 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the suspects. He also added that 31 robbery attempts were also foiled by the police.

The names of the seven robbers are; Ndidi Oluchukwu, Owolabi Adeyemo, David Olufemi, Samuel Israel, Emeka Ibeh, Samuel Anochime, and Ebedot Stephen.

The police also said it recovered 12 pairs of military camouflage uniforms, military ID cards, two cutlasses, ATM cards, jack knives, female pants and a local ring from the suspects.

One of the dismissed soldiers, Oluchukwu, claimed the pants in the police custody belongs to his wife and the police recovered it when he was arrested at his house.

Oluchukwu was dismissed in 2015 after he was declared AWOL.

“I took a pass in 2015 and went home but I felt sick when I got home, it took some time and I was dismissed," he said.

Stephen said he was dismissed from the navy for mediating in land issues and intervening in land matters on behalf of people.

He said the army uniforms they were using was given to him by a commander.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the police in Lagos arrested seven suspected cult members in Itire area of the state.

This was disclosed on Sunday, September 22, on the official Facebook page of Lagos RSS.

The police said the RRS commander, DCP, Tunji Disu, led the team that restored normalcy to the area after a cult clash that started from a drinking joint situated at Oseni street in Itire of the state.
