Mugabe died of cancer - President Emmerson Mnangagwa reveals

Emmerson Mnangagwa, the current president of Zimbabwe, on Monday, September 23, revealed that his late predecessor, Robert Mugabe, died of cancer.

Mnangagwa, speaking to supporters of the ZANU-PF party in New York, United States (US), said that the chemotherapy treatment was stopped when it was discovered that the disease has already spread all over Mugabe's internal organs, Reuters Africa reports.

The president said: “Treatment had stopped, doctors had stopped treatment, chemotherapy, one, because of age and also because the cancer had spread and it was not helping anymore.”

However, Mnangagwa did not reveal the type of cancer that killed the former president who died on Friday, September 6.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Mugabe stood out as a leader because of his zeal, passion and selfless commitment to the emancipation of the people of Zimbabwe and the self realization of black people everywhere.

This view was expressed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on arrival in Harare on Friday, September 13 to attend the funeral of the late African leader.
