Despite Nigeria being the most populous black nation in the world, her citizens have proven that the country is also blessed with bundle of talents.

Segun Toyin Dawodu is a Nigerian-born medical doctor has being making the country of his birth proud in his chosen field in faraway America.

He was formerly an associate professor of pain medicine at Albany Medical College, and is presently an attending interventional physiatrist with the WellSpan Health both in USA.

Dawodu has been a major contributor to the peer-reviewed articles on the diagnosis and management of spinal cord injury, Cauda Equina and Conus Medullaris Syndromes, swallowing disorders and traumatic brain injury.

Edo state born Dawodu is a man of many honours. He started his foray in medicine in Nigeria after graduating in medicine from the University of Ibadan, Oyo state. He deviated from medicine to acquire another degree in quite a different field, law from University of London/Queen Mary (LL.B and LL.M).

He later forged ahead with medicine when he studied medical informatics (Master of Science) from Northwestern University, and then went to the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School where he obtained an MBA.

Segun Toyin Dawodu is board certified in the medical specialties of physical medicine and rehabilitation, pain medicine, sports medicine, clinical informatics, spinal cord injury medicine and electrodiagnostic medicine. He is also a diplomat of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Scotland.

This worthy ambassador of Nigeria is a licensed physician in the United States in New York and other states. He is also certified to practice in the United Kingdom by the General Medical Council and Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago.

Dawodu is also a licensed Medical Informatician as a specialist in medical informatics/ health informatics with the United Kingdom Council for Health Informatics Professions (UKCHIP).

In his home country, Dawodu is licensed to practice by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

He has served in many capacities in different professional organisations outside Nigeria which include member of the editorial board in the Knowledge NOW publications of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, membership of different committees of the American Academy of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine, etc.

Dawodu is a fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Fellow of the American Academy of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine, Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, Member of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management, and Member/Diplomate of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Aside medicine, Dawodu is an activist. He is a pioneer member of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) in Nigeria in 1987. He established the first website on Nigeria's socio-political concerns, Dawodu.com, in 1998, to create political awareness in his country of birth in citizens both at home and in the diaspora.

He also established the first website on the history and people of the old Benin Kingdom, edo-nation.net, in 1998 and provided the first free email service from a Nigerian organization.

Segun Toyin Dawodu is as old as Nigeria as he was born on October 13, 1960.
