Ihedioha rejects FG’s plan to establish herdsmen settlement in Imo

The federal government’s plan to set up Ruga Farm settlements for herdsmen in Imo state has been rejected by the state governor, Emeka Ihedioha.

The development was made public by the governor’s special adviser on media, Steve Osuji, Vanguard reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the governor wondered about the rationale behind the initiative for a herdsmen settlement in his state, when none exists in any of the northern states.

Rejecting the initiative, Ihedioha pointed out that such a thing would not be accepted by any south-east governor. He said the south-east states would not rush to accept the proposal when it had not been implemented by any of the states in the North.

He said: “Certainly not. It is not about Imo state; no state in the south-east would accept it. We won’t rush to accept it when no state in the North has implemented it.”

Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that the Benue government said it would not accept the 'Ruga' settlement for herdsmen currently being implemented by the federal government across some states.

The state government recalled in a statement by Terver Akase, the spokesperson of the governor, that Samuel Ortom had earlier rejected cattle colonies and was still rejecting the policy in whichever ‘robes it is disguised’.
