Rivers election: PDP wins 3 Senate seats as Wike extends lead to 13 LGAs

- The Peoples Democratic Party has won all the three Senate seats in Rivers state

- This came as a boost for the party as Governor Nyesom Wike extends lead to 13 states

- Governor Wike has polled 426, 279 votes against Amaechi-backed AAC's Awara who polled 129,855 votes

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has successfully cruised to a comfortable victory in Rivers as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared candidates of the party winners of the three Senate seats in the state.

Vanguard reports that PDP’s Senator George Sekibo won Rivers East senatorial seat, Betty Apiafi comfortably won the Rivers West Senate seat, while Barry Mpigi won Rivers Southeast district.

Legit.ng gathers that INEC has resumed for the collation of governorship results with emerging report indicating that Governor Wike is leading in 13 out of 15 local government areas announced by INEC so far.

As the cumulative standing among the parties suggests, Governor Wike has polled 426, 279 votes against Amaechi backed African Action Congress (AAC)'s Biokpomabo Awara, who polled 129,855 votes.

Wike won in Ikwerre LGA, Port Harcourt City, Andoni, Eleme, Opobo/Nkoro, Bonny, Okrika, Omuma, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Etche, Emohua, Ahoada East, and Tai local government areas

Awara, who is backed by the All Progressive Congress (APC) power brokers including transport minister, Rotimi Amaechi, trailed behind having won Oyigbo and Akuku Toru local government areas.

Legit.ng had earlier reported that PDP's Governor Nyesom Wike, as at April 2, was leading in eight out of ten local government areas where INEC had announced their results.

According to the electoral commission, Wike comfortably polled total of 249,400 votes, while his arch-rival of the Africa Action Congress (AAC), Biokpomabo Awara, polled total votes of 106,886 votes.
