APC plotting to trigger widespread violence during elections - PDP alleges

- The PDP alleges that the presidency is mounting pressure on INEC to cancel the general elections in some states and make results inconclusive so as to achieve a staggered election

- The spokesperson for the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, faults President Buhari for saying those who steal ballot boxes during the coming elections will pay with their lives

- The party alleges that Buhari is bent on using every dictatorial and tyrannical act to truncate the process of a free, fair and credible election in Nigeria

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to trigger widespread political crisis to derail the Nigerian democratic process and plunge the nation into anarchy.

The PDP in a statement on Monday, February 18, also alleged that the presidency is mounting pressure on INEC to cancel elections in some states and make other election results inconclusive so as to achieve a staggered election.

The opposition party made the allegations when reacting to Buhari’s statement at the opening of APC’s national caucus meeting where the president said those who steal ballot boxes during the coming elections will pay with their lives.

The spokesperson for the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, described Buhari’s statement as a threat to the lives of Nigerians, adding that the president's statement was a direct call for jungle justice.

“We do hope that this call by President Buhari is not a camouflage for the fake soldiers mobilized by the APC to shoot at innocent Nigerians, snatch ballot boxes and execute their rigging plans on the election day. It is indeed a license to kill, which should not come from any leader of any civilized nation," Ologbondiyan said.

"The underlining fact to the above is that President Buhari and APC leaders, upon getting to their voting constituencies last Saturday, realized that there is a nationwide rejection of Buhari’s re-election bid, and this has thrown them into a panic mode.

"President Buhari must however bear in mind that his resort to threats and scaremongering will not deter Nigerians from coming out en-masse to vote him out of office on February 23.”

The PDP alleged that Buhari is determined on using every dictatorial and tyrannical act to truncate the process of a free, fair and credible election in Nigeria.

The PDP claimed the the presidency has directed the leadership of INEC to immediately reshuffle the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in order to deploy compromised officials to manipulate the electoral process in favour of the ruling party.

The party urged Nigerians and the international community to hold President Buhari responsible for any crisis that may erupt during the general electoral.

Meanwhile, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of allegedly colluding with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rig election.

Speaking on Monday, February 18, at a crucial caucus meeting organised by the ruling party following the postponement of the February 16 election, the APC chairman alleged that the commission had brought to the knowledge of PDP the poll shift before any other party.

Legit.ng gathers that Oshiomhole also vowed that the party will write the electoral umpire on the new election schedule and the need to have free, fair and credible election for the country.
