Emir sends warning message to politicians ahead of general elections

- The monarch, however, urged various candidates for the forthcoming general elections to shun bitterness and hate speech

The Emir of Nasarawa, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Jibrin, has called on politicians to play politics with fear of Allah.

Daily Trust reports that he made the call in his palace at the weekend while receiving the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Nasarawa west, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

Legit.ng gathered that the emir specifically urged various candidates for the forthcoming general elections to shun bitterness and hate speech which, he said, could cause disunity in the country.

He said: “Politics is not do-or-die affair. Leadership comes from Almighty Allah. Please, play politics with fear of Allah and avoid anything capable of causing disunity in the state.”

He also asked youths in the state not to allow themselves to be used by selfish politicians to foment trouble in the elections.

He noted that there would be no meaningful development in an atmosphere of rancour.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that the Bauchi state government has commenced payment of over N269 million compensation to owners of the land used for the building of Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport, Bauchi.

The land was purchased by the state government during the Late Abubakar Tatari Ali administration in 1981 the building of the airport.

The director general of the state’s Geographic Information Service (GIS), Baba Abubakar Suleiman, said the state government would pay over 633 land owners.

According to him, over N55 million has been paid to various land owners.

Suleiman said the payment was based on an agreement reached with the land owners to settle out of court, adding that Governor Mohammed Abubakar had pledged to settle the over N269 million in five instalments.

He said some of the lands were purchased at N30 in 1981 and the state government had increased it to a reasonable amount that would be useful to the owners.

Legit.ng had previously reported that the Nasarawa state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, David Emmanuel-Ombugadu, promised to initiate good polices and programmes to benefit the whole people of the state, if elected in 2019.
