Oshiomhole's coming altered the plan of those who wanted to destroy APC - Okorocha

- The governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha, said the emergence of Adams Oshiomhole as APC national chairman saved the party from destruction

- Okorocha claimed the party could have faced a bigger disaster if the Oyegun-led NWC had been left to continue leading

- He blamed the recent defections rocking the party on the proponents of tenure elongation of Oyegun as party chairman

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has described the emergence of former Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a timely intervention.

Okorocha said the coming of Oshiomhole as the party chairman saved the party from being destroyed by self-centred members.

In a statement in Owerri on Sunday, July 29, by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha said the current gale of defections rocking the party is as a result of the proponents of tenure elongation of John Odigie-Oyegun as party chairman, The Punch reports.

He said: “One could easily imagine what would have been the case if the party had allowed the Oyegun-led NWC to continue and what would have happened at the party’s primaries especially that of the presidency.

“What is happening in the party now could not have been planned and executed within these few weeks Oshiomhole took over as the national chairman of the party. Rather, his coming only altered the plan of those who wanted to destroy APC to serve personal interests.

“Oshiomhole’s coming was timely. He came at the appropriate time. He is on it and will get it right. All we need to do is to support him.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that a group, Anambra Central Senatorial Zone Peoples Assembly (ANCSZPA), has warned Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state to stop his ongoing verbal attacks on Senator Victor Umeh, the senator representing the area in the National Assembly.

The group noted that the attack on Senator Umeh was a very big distraction on him, who they described as a focused legislator, adding that he has achieved much for his senatorial zone within the short time he has been in the red chambers.
