JUST IN: Governor Ortom dumps APC for PDP ahead of 2019

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has officially announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor made the announcement at the Government House, Makurdi, hours after some Benue youths blocked his convoy, preventing him from visiting APC national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, in Abuja.

There have been insinuations that the governor will quit the ruling party after he announced on Monday, July 16, that he has been sent out of the APC, and is currently exploring a new option to actualise his future ambition.

The Benue state governor met with leaders of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday, July 18, in Illorin the Kwara state capital, alongside other aggrieved political office holders under the APC sparking further rumours that he is set to leave.

Last minute efforts by Oshiomhole to prevent the governor from leaving didn't yield any results.

The announcement by the governor has however sparked massive jubilation among residents of the state in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.

Meanwhile, the publicity secretary of the APC in Benue state, Agbo Terkula, has resigned both his membership of the party and his position.

In a letter of resignation, dated Wednesday, July 18, addressed to the state chairman of the party, Terkula claimed the APC controlled federal government did not represent the interests and yearnings of the people of the state.

“The APC which controls the government at the centre does not represent the yearnings and aspirations of the people of Benue state," he said.
