6 herdsmen, 150 cows reportedly killed by soldiers in Nasarawa - Police

- Police in Nasarawa state says six herdsmen and 150 cows have been killed by soldiers in the state

- The police say the victims were killed by soldiers deployed to Benue and Nasarawa states border

- The police public relations officer of the state command, ASP Usman Samaila, says the remains of the victims have been recovered by the police

Six herdsmen and over 150 cows at Akpanagya, in the Keana local government area of Nasarawa state, have allegedly been killed by soldiers deployed to Benue and Nasarawa states border.

The Punch reports that the acting police public relations officer of the state command, ASP Usman Samaila, confirmed this in a telephone interview in Lafia.

Legit.ng gathers that Samaila stated that the command received information that the military personnel came from Benue and carried out the operation that led to the killing of six people suspected to be herdsmen in the state.

Samaila said that the command did not know what really happened between the herdsmen and the soldiers.

He said: “The command is aware of the incident that took place in the Keana local government area of the state.

“I can confirm to you that our men went to the scene of the incident and recovered about six dead bodies killed by the suspected military men in the area.”

He described the incident as “a wild operation that was formed by the military personnel to prevent an unabated crisis between Fulani herders and Tiv farmers at Benue and Nasarawa states border.

According to him, personnel had been drafted to the local government area to avert any possible future crisis.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Nasarawa state chapter, Mallam Muhammed Hussein, reacted to the killings of six of their members.

While addressing journalists at the the association’s secretariat in Lafia on Wednesday, June 27, he said: “We are worried how six of our members were shot dead by some bad eggs that are in the military. If the military suspects any Fulani man for any crime they should arrest and prosecute him and not to just kill like him that."
