Police investigate SARS officer who forced man to give N10,500 bribe
The police have commenced investigation into allegations that a Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) member extorted N10,500 from a young man in Ibadan, Oyo state.
The man who goes by the name Olamide on Twitter had alleged that he was stopped on his way from work and because the police found an application on his mobile phone, he was detained and had to eventually transfer N10,500 to one of the officers.
"I was arrested in Ibadan yesterday on my way to work coz police officers found an in built app(Hangout) on my phone, I refused to pay until your officers threatened to lock me up.. I eventually paid N10,500!"
"They didn't allow me to call anyone and I was ready to battle it out with them until I was taken to one of their wretched stations where they were gonna lock me up with some dreadful looking guys! I feared for my health and safety and just had to pay them," he alleged.

In their reaction, the police told replied Olamide who tagged the Twitter handle of the force when he reported the case, telling him that the case is being investigated.
"Your complaint is hereby acknowledged and investigation has been initiated. Your Tracking No is #PCRRU201907. Kindly DM the recipient's bank account number and name of his bank. Thank you for contacting NPF-PCRRU," the police added.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that operatives of the Police Rapid Response Complaints Unit (PCRRU) has arrested Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARs) personnel for extortion in Ikorodu area of Lagos state.
the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris has directed that the officer face orderly room trial and the consequences of his action.
