The wife of Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Ganiyat, and his first son, Mohammed, were all smiles as they arrived at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa for the posthumous investiture of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) title on the late human rights activist and legal luminary.

The late Chief MKO Abiola, acclaimed winner of the June 12 presidential election will also be honoured at the ceremony, with the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) title, The Punch notes.

Legit.ng gathers that Mohammed Fawehinmi told State House press men that he is happy that his father’s efforts were not in vain.

He said the recognition accorded to his father made the family feel very proud and honoured.

On her part, Fawehinmi’s widow recounted her husband’s ordeals at the hands of the military junta that annulled the June 12, 1993 presidential election.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that some Nigerians have begun clamoring for the introduction of June 12, 1993 general elections into the history curriculum for secondary schools and tertiary institutions across the country.

The calls are coming against the backdrop of the 20th anniversary of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election.
