Ekiti governorship poll will be a litmus test for INEC - Arewa youths
- The Arewa Youth Federation has said the upcoming governorship election in Ekiti will be a litmus test for INEC
- The group said it had been given cause to worry as a result of the violence which heralded the campaign of the APC
- It further urged all Arewa people living in the state to support Prof Eleka; as a way of reciprocating Ayo Fayose’s kind gestures
The Ekiti governorship election scheduled for July 14 will be a litmus test for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as it prepares for 2019, says the Arewa Youth Federation.
The assertion was made by the group’s president, Adamu Kabir, in an interview in Abuja on Monday, June 11, Punch reports.
Legit.ng gathers that Kabir stated that the Ekiti election would provide an opportunity for INEC, under its new leadership, to prove skeptics wrong by "ensuring that the election is credible.” He also called on civil society groups and international observers to keep a keen eye on happenings before, during and after the elections.

The group pointed out that it had been given cause to worry as a result of the violence which heralded the campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kabir stated: “We have resolved to add our voice as responsible stakeholders in the Nigerian project. Facts cannot be twisted; and no matter how falsehood travels, truth will overtake it. Sons and daughters of Ekiti must rise up to defend their land against external aggression and resist political invasion and insurgency.
“Ekiti has remained relatively safe due to the proactiveness of its Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and his team to curtail all forms of incursion into its territory by insurgents whose agenda is to kill and main defenseless citizens for economic and land control."
He also canvassed for support for Prof Eleka from all Arewa people living and doing business in Ekiti state, as a way of reciprocating the gesture of hospitality and peaceful coexistence they have enjoyed from the Fayose-led administration.

Legit.ng previously reported that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was accused of perfecting an alleged plot to rig the July 14 Ekiti governorship election in cahoots with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), by the state governor, Ayodele Fayose.
The governor claimed that the APC and INEC had allegedly struck a deal to disenfranchise 50% of the Ekiti electorate by “heavily pre-loading the smart card readers.”
