Oyo APC faction writes Buhari, military, alleges threat to lives

- President Muhammadu Buhari has been called upon by a faction of the Oyo state chapter of the APC over alleged threat to the lives of its members

- The faction, known as Unity Forum, wrote a letter to the president, asking him to come to their rescue

- The forum alleged that a group working for Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the governor of the state, is responsible for the threat

A faction of the Oyo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), known as the Unity Forum, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari in a letter written to the president, alleging threat to the lives of its members.

The letter, titled, 'Notification of threat to our lives, public peace and request for intervention' was signed by Wasiu Olatunbosun, the secretary of the forum, Punch reports.

Legit.ng notes that they asked the president to use his good offices to save their lives from the hands of people they claimed were working for the state governor, Abiola Ajimobi.

The letter read: “We are constrained to direct this letter to Your Excellency because of the urgent need for you to use your good offices as the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces to intervene in the unrelenting threat to the lives of our members and the threat to public peace by individuals and groups who surreptitiously identify themselves as working for Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the governor of Oyo state.

“The series of threat began on Saturday May 5, 2018, when hoodlums invaded the venue of a stakeholders’ meeting of the APC held to deliberate on modalities for the conduct of ward congresses and attacked law-abiding elders and members of the party, including members of the Congress Committee from the national secretariat of the party.

“The threat to our lives has been reported to security agencies in the state. However, it continued unabated. I wish to assert that the members of the group are law-abiding citizens and do not deserve the climate of violence and threat under which they are being made to live.”

In his reaction, the special adviser to the Oyo state governor on communication and strategy, Bolaji Tunji, said that the governor was a law-abiding citizen who would never send anyone to attack people.

He stated: “Majority of them are his political sons and he will not harm them. They are whipping up sentiment and attracting attention to themselves. If they have an issue with the APC congresses, they should meet the appeal committee that is already in place.”

Tinubu in a statement reacting to an open letter by Unity Forum, urged the group to cooperate with the state governor, Abiola Ajimobi, and accept that the party's decisions won't always be in their favour.
