Confusion as 2 factional executives emerge from APC LG congress in Kogi state

- APC faction hold parallel congresses simultaneously at different venues

- Security officers invade venue of the Adankolo congress

- Okorocha commends John Oyegun for postponing Imo LG congress

The All progressive Congress (APC) local government congress held across the 21 local government areas of Kogi state on Saturday, May 12, has produced two factions of executives.

The Punch reports that the factions of executives.emerged following parallel congresses held at different venues simultaneously.

The newspaper stated while party members loyal to Governor Yahaya Bello converged at the Lafia Okene venue of the congress, the Hady Ametuo-led faction held theirs at St Luke’s Model Primary School, Adankolo, where Usman Mamanlafia and Abubakar Nagogo Maiyaki emerged the factional chairman and secretary respectively in a 27-man executive.

The venue of the Adankolo congress was however, invaded by security men who dispersed the delegates and seized the chairs and canopies hired by the organisers.

The rival faction is alleged to be loyal to the embattled state chairman of APC, Hady Ametuo.

Meanwhile, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo has lauded the APC national working committee led by John Oyegun for postponing the local government congress which was supposed to take place on Saturday, May 12.

Okorocha said the decision has saved what would have resulted in a blood shed as thugs have continued to attack both party members and the office over the outcome of the last Saturday’s ward congress, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to a statement signed by the governor’s chief press secretary Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha accused some opposition members of the party of plans to destroy the party.
