N322m fraud: Delta senator, Nwaoboshi, gets bail

- The Federal High Court in Lagos has granted bail to Senator Peter Nwaoboshi after spending a day in prison

- Senator Peter Nwaoboshi was charged with an alleged fraud of N322 million

- Justice Mohammed Idris ordered him to get two sureties to each sign a bail bond of N50m within 72 hours

Peter Nwaoboshi, the senator representing Delta north in the National Assembly, has been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Lagos after he was charged with an alleged fraud of N322m.

Punch reports that Justice Mohammed Idris ordered Nwaoboshi to get two sureties who will each sign a bail bond of N50m within 72 hours.

Legit.ng gathered the lawmaker was also asked to deposit his passport in the custody of the court pending the conclusion of the case.

The judge noted that he could not travel out of the country without the court’s permission until the end of the case.

Justice Idris adjourned till June 13 and 20, 2018 for commencement of trial.

Nwaoboshi walked out of the courtroom, greeted with shouts of “Oshimiri 1” by his legion of loyalists.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that a senator representing Delta north senatorial district at the eight Senate was remanded at the Ikoyi Prison in Lagos state.

Peter Nwaoboshi, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator, was remanded following an order from the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos against him.

The remand order followed Nwaoboshi's arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of fraud.
