Senator Ike Ekweremadu has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss an application filed by the federal government seeking the forfeiture of his 22 houses in Nigeria and abroad.
The deputy Senate president in a motion filed before the court argued that the special presidential investigation panel for the recovery of public property lacks legal powers to file a suit for the forfeiture of his houses.

The Punch reports that Ekweremadu asked the court to declare the panel unconstitutional, illegal, null and void on the basis that it was established by a military decree in 1983 and had been replaced by the Code of Conduct Bureau Act .
He insisted that a dead panel lacked the legal backing to probe and apply for an interim court order for the forfeiture of his 22 assets on behalf of the federal government.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng has reported that Senator Ike Ekweremadu has reportedly sold two of his three properties in Kissimmee, Florida, United States of America, according to Sahara Reporters. It was reported that the Senate president’s properties are townhouses at 2747 Club Cortile Circle and 2763 Club Cortile Circle, Kissimmee, Florida
The properties allegedly bought for $200,000 each were allegedly put on the market in January and sold for $150,000.
It was reported that another property situated at 4507 Stella Street, Bellavida Estate Kissime, Florida has been put up for sale and still listed as being owned by Ekweremadu.
