2019: Mass defection will hit APC soon - Secondus
- The PDP national chairman said the ruling APC will soon witness mass defection
- He said his party is working actively towards overthrowing the APC in 2019
The national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, says the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will experience what he described as “defection tsunami” soon.
Secondus said this in reaction to the defection of members of the PDP in some states like Kogi and Adamawa.
Recall that a former special adviser on political matters to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak, had led 16 other chieftains and supporters of the PDP to the APC in Adamawa, on Saturday, February 17.

Those who left the PDP with him included Chief Felix Tangwami, Chief Medan Teneke, Alhaji Saidu Aliyu and Alhaji Yusuf Dan-Umana.
Gulak had claimed that he and his co-defectors left the main opposition party because of alleged impunity in the party.
He said: “It is time for us to formally register as APC members. It is time to formally bury the PDP in Adamawa State.”
Though Secondus said the PDP regretted the defection of its members, he said it was better to go into election with people who the party was sure would work for its success.

The national chairman of the PDP, who spoke with Punch on Wednesday, February 21, insisted that the national leadership and other stakeholders of the party were working hard to make sure that the party would win the 2019 elections.
Legit.ng previously reported that Secondus said the PDP is repositioning to take over power in the 2019 general elections for a better Nigeria.
Secondus said this during a grand rally, as part of activities to mark Governor Seriake Dickson’s six years in office in Yenagoa on Wednesday, February 14.
He warned states’ chapters of the party not to bar any member, who had left the party from returning to help the party reclaim power in 2019 at the national level.
The chairman also received defectors from the APC and commissioned the new boat pavilion built by Dickson for his people.
