Governor Obaseki meets with President Buhari in Abuja

- Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, met with President Buhari on Friday

- The governor said he discussed two critical issues with the president

- One of the issues is the human trafficking and illegal migration which is common in the state

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, February 2, met with Governor Godwin Obaseki in a closed doors meeting at the presidential villa to discuss the issue of human trafficking and illegal migration common in Edo state.

Aftre the meeting, Governor Obaseki, who spoke with the State House correspondent said he came to visit the president to discuss two critical issues bothering the state with him and ask for the help of the federal government, Punch reports.

Obaseki said: “I discussed two critical issues that bother us in Edo with the President.

“The first is the issue of human trafficking and illegal migration.

“As you know, this is a problem with Edo, which we have accepted and we have rolled out our strategies to deal with it.

"We want to work with the federal government and agencies of government to end this scourge of human trafficking and modern slavery.

“It is against the ethos of humanity for us to accept what is going on with our young people today.

“So, I came to see the President to explain what we are doing in Edo state and to solicit for more federal support for our action.”

Legit.ng previously reported that the Edo government on Friday commenced the payment of N20,000 monthly stipends to the four sets of Libya returnees in the state.

Speaking at Idia College, in Benin, venue where the returnees converged to collect the stipends, Chairman of Edo Task force Against Human trafficking, Prof. Yinka Omorogbe, said the stipends would be paid for three months.
